South Padre Island is a unique tourist destination drawing millions of visitors every year. The Cameron County Parks & Recreation Department, as part of the implementation of the Coastal Parks Master Plan, is working to expand available public amenities at beach access points.

As South Padre Island’s population continues to grow and develop northward, the need for accessible and inclusive beachfront amenities continues to increase. Cameron County Beach Access #3 is located on South Padre Island. Architectural designs, engineering, and permitting for facilities at Beach Access #3 were completed as part of Phase 1 of a three-phase plan to develop the access point. This project will focus on Phase 2 and work to improve safety and accessibility of visitors at Beach Access #3. This access point is an ideal location for new facilities due to its proximity to the City of South Padre Island and restriction of beach vehicular access. Cameron County complete Phase 2 of the project which will include the construction of (1) an American Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant dune walkover that would allow proper access from the parking lot to the beach, (2) an ADA-compliant sidewalk, and (3) a parking lot with permeable paving system.
